HD Truck Alignment Mechanic

Job Title: Heavy-Duty (HD) Truck Alignment Mechanic

Colony Tire is currently seeking a full-time Heavy-Duty Truck Alignment Mechanic to join our team! Position Summary

The HD Mechanic performs heavy-duty truck and trailer alignments, complex diagnostic work, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs on commercial trucks, trailers, and equipment. This role also includes tire and automotive service tasks and other duties assigned by the manager.


Qualifications

  • Prior heavy-duty truck/HD mechanic experience required.

  • Alignment experience strongly preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Must meet physical requirements of the job.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

Heavy-Duty Responsibilities

  • Perform HD truck and trailer alignments using alignment racks, laser systems, or advanced alignment equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair steering, suspension, axle, and frame-related issues.

  • Inspect, service, and repair air brake systems.

  • Conduct advanced diagnostic work on engines, drivetrains, transmissions, and electrical systems.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and DOT-level inspections.

  • Repair HD electrical issues related to lighting, sensors, wiring, and engine controls.

  • Service commercial truck cooling, fuel, emissions, and hydraulic systems.

General Mechanical Responsibilities

  • Follow procedures for vehicle inspection before and after service.

  • Document all work according to company policy.

  • Mount, dismount, balance, rotate, and repair tires.

  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and lubrication.

  • Diagnose vehicle concerns using testing equipment and industry methods.

  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes.

  • Follow checklists to inspect belts, hoses, steering systems, wheel bearings, and other safety components.

  • Communicate clearly with customers about issues, repairs, and future maintenance needs.

  • Complete state inspections.

  • Service A/C, heating, and cooling systems.

  • Repair or replace fuel system components.

  • Service transmissions, drive shafts, exhaust systems, and suspension assemblies.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of heavy-duty systems, tools, equipment, and diagnostic procedures

  • Ability to operate vehicle lifts, hoists, alignment machines, and diagnostic tools

  • Proficiency with power tools, pneumatic tools, and common hand tools

  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions (lifting, bending, climbing, etc.)

  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate solutions, and complete complex repairs accurately

  • Strong mechanical reasoning and attention to detail

Work Environment

The employee is regularly exposed to:

  • Moving mechanical parts

  • Fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather

  • Loud noise levels

  • Grease, dirt, and physically demanding positions

Must regularly lift up to 100 lbs; frequently more than 100 lbs with assistance. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, color, and depth perception.


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Relevant heavy-duty mechanic experience required
