Automotive Mechanic

Department: Colony Tire Retail/Commercial
Location: Greenville, NC

Job Title: Automotive Mechanic

Colony Tire is currently seeking a full-time Automotive Mechanic to join our team! Our mechanics work for competitive, unlimited pay. Previous experience required. Mechanic must be able to diagnose and repair simple and complex automotive issues, and perform routine maintenance on passenger vehicles, as well as heavy equipment. Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Summary:

Employee will be required to perform tire and auto-related service as well as other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the competencies and or ability required. Essential Tasks and Responsibilities; include, but not limited to:

  • Follow established procedures to inspect tires, wheels and vehicles before and after service
  • Document work performed accurately and according to company policy
  • Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks and/or automotive lifts
  • Unbolt and re-bolt wheels from/to vehicles, using torque wrenches, lug wrenches and other hand and power tools. Mount and dismount tires onto wheels
  • Identify and inflate tires in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications
  • Place wheels on balancing machines to determine counterweights required to balance wheels. Hammer required counterweights onto rims of wheels
  • Replace valve stems
  • Repair tires in accordance with industry accepted guidelines
  • Rotate tires on vehicles in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as but not limited to oil changes and lubrications
  • Pull vehicles in and out of shop safely
  • Evaluate vehicles and/or their components and systems by accepted diagnostic methods which may include any or all of the following; test driving vehicles; using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, computerized diagnostic devices, and their experience
  • Repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes
  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brakes, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas
  • Confer with customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose problems with, and make repairs to minor electrical systems.
  • Examine vehicles, compile estimates of repair costs, and secure customers’ approval to perform repairs
  • Repair or replace defective ball joint suspensions, wheel bearings or other suspension components
  • Complete State Inspections according to the outlined procedures
  • Repair and service air conditioning, heating, and engine-cooling systems
  • Repair, replace, or adjust defective fuel injectors, carburetor parts, gasoline filters
  • Repair, service, or replace transmission and/or parts and drive train components
  • Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes
  • Disassemble, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as steering systems, and linkages.
  • Complete front-end alignments and suspension system service

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Operation and Control- Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Operation Monitoring- watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Extent Flexibility- the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
  • Static Strength- the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
  • Knowledge of commonly used tools- Ability to recognize and use a variety of tools, including but not limited to power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, machine tools, such as lathes and grinning machines, jack sand hoists, and common hand tools
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, and/or Equipment- Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, or passenger vehicles
  • Performing General Physical Activities- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems- Analyzing information and evaluation results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Complex Problem Solving – Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Hearing sensitivity – The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The environment may or may not be air conditioned/heated seasonally. Employees frequently work with dirty and greasy parts and in awkward positions. The employee must regularly lift up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific visions abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. As a result, minor workplace injuries are not uncommon, but employees usually can avoid serious accidents if safe practices are observed.

Education:

High school or equivalency, and/or related experience is preferred but not required.
