Industrial Tire Technician

Job Title: Industrial Tire Technician

Colony Tire located in Norfolk, VA is currently seeking a mechanically inclined and motivated individual to join our team as an Industrial Tire Technician! Full benefit package offered, including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) + Profit Sharing, paid holidays, vacation time, company paid life insurance.

Summary: This position involves operating a fully outfitted mobile press truck to install solid forklift tires at customer sites throughout the Hampton Roads area and surrounding regions. No experience required, comprehensive training will be provided for the right candidate.

Position Details:

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week + overtime as needed (no weekends)
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly pay + labor commissions

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a mobile press truck to install, remove, and service solid industrial tires (primarily forklift tires) at customer sites and at the Colony location.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout the region to perform tire services efficiently, minimizing customer equipment downtime.
  • Inspect tires and wheels for wear, damage, and other serviceable issues; determine repairability or replacement needs based on company and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Properly use hydraulic press equipment and hand tools to mount and dismount industrial tires on wheels and machines, ensuring correct fitment and safe operation.
  • Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on service vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Complete accurate service reports, work orders, and inspection forms, and submit them according to company protocols.
  • Interact professionally with customers, explain services performed, provide maintenance tips, and address basic product inquiries or concerns.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of common tire sizes, tools, and materials on the service truck, report shortages or equipment issues to management.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations while using PPE and promoting a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Engage in company-provided training to stay current on tire technologies, equipment use, and safety procedures.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The environment may or may not be air conditioned/heated seasonally. Employees frequently work with dirty and greasy parts and in awkward positions. The employee must regularly lift a minimum of 75 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific visions abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. As a result, minor workplace injuries are not uncommon, but employees usually can avoid serious accidents if safe practices are observed.

Education and Requirements:

  • High school or equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
